Categories

Everyone writes down the same list of categories. A letter is drawn, and you have three minutes to fill in an answer starting with that letter for each one. Answers that somebody else also wrote score nothing, so you are aiming for correct and unusual at the same time.

1. Everyone takes a sheet of paper and writes the same ten categories: country, animal, food, film, name, and so on.
2. Pick a letter at random. Someone recites the alphabet silently until another player says stop.
3. Three minutes on the clock. Fill in one answer per category, each starting with that letter.
4. Read the answers out one category at a time. Cross out every answer that more than one person wrote.
5. One point for each answer nobody else had. Play five rounds with five different letters, then add it up.

• Table against table: at a wedding, score by table instead of by person. One sheet, one pen, ten people arguing.
• Themed lists: for a work event make every category about the company, for a wedding make them about the couple.
• Two letters: answers must start with one letter and end with another. Much harder, so play half as many rounds.
